


Since its introduction in 2002, the Volkswagen Touareg has become a standard of high-quality, luxury and toughness in the American SUV market. In 2007, the Touareg was redesigned completely, and since then, has been referred to 'Touareg 2'. It is consistently a worldwide favorite, offering a luxurious interior, smooth ride and impressive off-road capability. Volkswagen Touaregs are thoroughly designed for off-roading and feature dynamic approach and departure angles on the outside. The vehicle can handle water up to 22.8 inches deep. The powerful V6 engine for 2010 offers strong performance in a capable chassis and the optional turbo-diesel V6 offers decent towing power and increased fuel efficiency. MSRP for the Touareg 2 starts at $40,440. Mileage estimates for the V6 gasoline model is 14 mpg city and 19 mpg highway, while mileage for the diesel engine is a very respectable 25 mpg city and 18 mpg highway.
The 4.2L V8 engine available last year has been dropped, leaving just the 3.6L V6 gasoline and 3.0L V6 diesel engine as the only engine choices. No other major changes have been made for 2010.
Two trims are offered for 2010--the VR6 and the V6 TDI. The VR6 comes with a standard 3.6L V6 gasoline engine that offers 280 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. The TDI 3.0L V6 diesel engine offers 221 horsepower and 407 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic, which allows manual gear selection, plus Volkswagen's 4XMOTION all-wheel drive system, oriented for both on- and off-road conditions. Independent double wishbone suspension is standard in front, along with independent 4-link suspension in rear. The Touareg's interior is luxurious but also utility-minded. Rugged leatherette upholstery is standard and the rear seat is split 60/40 and folds forward nearly flat for expanded cargo capacity. The 2010 Touareg 2 comes packed with standard safety equipment. Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), electronic stability control and an electronic differential lock are standard on both trims along with engine braking assist (EBA), which helps maintain stability in steep situations. Hill Descent Control and Hill Climb Assist are also standard is. A full array of safety equipment is offered including airbags, day-time running lights, automatic headlights, tire pressure monitor system and rear parking aid. Lane-change assist and adaptive cruise control, which work together to automatically keeps a safe distance from other traffic are available as options. Standard equipment on both trims includes dual climate control, cruise control, power doors, locks, windows and mirrors, fog lamps, privacy glass, anti-theft system, interior woodgrain trim, leather-wrapped steering wheel, trip computer, power liftgate, aluminum wheels, sunroof, all-season tires, power driver's seat and heated front-row seats. Options available include HID headlights, a navigation system, premium sound system, entertainment system, remote start, running boards, performance tires, power passenger seat and leather seats.
