2009 Volkswagen New Beetle Convertible Value

The distinctive Volkswagen New Beetle coupe is no longer a fresh face for 2009, but it still stands out for its spacious front seating, pleasant ride, and abundance of safety features. The convertible is also one of the most affordable drop-tops, and it boasts a very high level of refinement.

2009 Volkswagen New Beetle Convertible Changes

For 2009, gone are the Triple White and Black Tie Edition models, as well as the SE trim level. This leaves only the S trim New Beetles for 2009 in both coupe and convertible, though many features from the SE cars have made their way into the S cars. Convertibles are available only with the 6-speed automatic transmission. Candy White is available on coupes and convertibles, while discontinued colors include Platinum Gray, Reflex Silver, Laser Blue, and Sunflower Yellow. Volkswagen's electronic stabilization program (ESP) is now standard.

2009 Volkswagen New Beetle Convertible Overview

For 2009, Volkswagen's New Beetle is powered by a 150-horsepower 2.5L inline 5-cylinder engine. In the coupes, it is mated to either a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic with Tiptronic. The convertibles are offered only with the 6-speed automatic transmission. With the manual transmission, the Beetle is quite frugal, with an estimated 20 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. New Beetles have a number of standard safety features, including front-seat head/thorax side airbags, anti-lock brakes, and VW's electronic stabilization program (ESP) with anti-slip regulation. The New Beetle convertible has a three-layer cloth soft top with a heated rear glass window. Convertibles also add the active rollover support system, which quickly deploys two spring-loaded posts behind the rear-seat headrests to improve safety in a rollover situation. Standard features on all New Beetles include height-adjustable heated front seats, a tilt/telescopic leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, air conditioning, a six-speaker MP3-compatible sound system with Sirius satellite radio, and power windows, locks, and mirrors. Also standard are 16-inch alloy wheels, heated washer nozzles, front floor mats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. Options on the New Beetle are limited to a power sunroof, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a 6-disc CD changer. On convertibles, options include a choice of black or cream roof color, the CD changer, and two variations of 17-inch alloy wheels.

MPG figures based on 2008-2010 EPA mileage estimates, reflecting new EPA fuel economy methods beginning with 2008 models. Use for comparison purposes only. Do not compare to models before 2008. Your actual mileage will vary depending on how you drive and maintain your vehicle. Some new models may be subject to Additional Dealer Markup.
